The Beauty Bitch: I’m Lost in a Sea of a Thousand Face Masks—Which Ones Are The Best?

Dear Beauty Bitch:

I need help navigating the world of beauty masks.

So many options and I am lost.

Which ones would you recommend?

Monroe L., OK

Dear Monroe:

You’ve come to the right place!

I LOVE face masks. But you’re right—figuring out which ones work well can be a real bitch.

Luckily, I’ve tried a ton of them, so the following suggestions are all MO and SL approved. And to make life a little easier, I’ve put the following picks into categories, so you’ll know what each product does best.

Arcona Tea Tree Mask

For a Deep Detox | Arcona Tea Tree Mask

This mask is one of the best I’ve found for improving the all-around appearance of my skin. Its active ingredients—sulphur, grapefruit extract and tea tree oil (natch)—work hard to suck out impurities, while mint balm and lavender protect against irritation. Plus, it creates a lovely cooling feeling when applied. Close your eyes and you’ll feel like  you’re at the spa.

Eminence Organics Key-Lime Vanilla Age-Defying Masque

For Awesome Anti-Aging Action | Eminence Organics Key-Lime Vanilla Age-Defying Masque

Eminence’s all-natural anti-aging mask is perfect if you are looking for a product that will keep your face firm and fresh. I love it for the smell—and its organic ingredients—but it’s also formulated to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles that often plague older skin.

The key? Zirhafirm, a blend of powerful, beauty-friendly botanicals that have been clinically proven to visibly lift skin by more than 20 percent.

Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

For The Perfect Peel-Off | Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

Boscia is the bomb. And this mask is simply amazing. You can literally see the icky, awful stuff coming out of your skin when you peel it off (which is a totally satisfying feeling in and of itself). I use this one regularly—once a week—because it’s easy to apply and creates very little mess.

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores

For Mighty Pore Purging | Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores

Charcoal and white China clay are the key ingredients in this super-cleansing, toxin-fighting mask. Both effectively pull impurities out of pores and leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and free of dirty debris.

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask

For An Instant Oxygen Infusion | Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask

Time-released antioxidants, as well as a powerful shot of oxygen, work together to give your face a long-lasting, bliss-inducing boost. Vitamin C also comes into play to brighten dark spots and give your skin a healthy glow. I love Bliss Spa’s Triple Oxygen facial, and this product is made to give you similarly stellar results at home.

Olay Pro-X Clear Intensive Refining Sulfur Mask

For Acne-Prone Skin | Olay Pro-X Clear Intensive Refining Sulfur Mask

If you’re acne prone, this mask is a must. It dries up zits super quick, and helps prevent your pores from future pimple-producing clogs. It also works great as a spot treatment, and if you have super slick skin it sucks up oil like a pro. Use it regularly—twice a week—and you’ll see skin-clearing results in as little as two weeks.

Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask

For Intense Hydration | Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask

According to Fresh, this formula has been scientifically proven to keep moisturizing skin six hours after the mask is rinsed away. That’s quite a claim, but I, for one, believe it.

I got this as a gift and tried it on a lazy, at-home and makeup-less Sunday. The result? I couldn’t stop feeling my face. If your skin is thirsty, this is the perfect quick quencher. It leaves your skin seriously smooth—and impossible not to touch.

Borghese Fango Active Mud for Face and Body

For An All Around Amazing Mask Experience | Borghese Fango Active Mud for Face and Body

This is my all-time fave, one that I’ve raved about before. I’ve been using it for years, and it never disappoints. Basically, it just does everything—soothes, smoothes, clears, cleans. It’s all-around awesome and worth every penny. I also adore its old-school green color, which makes me feel like I’m being beautified in a sweet 1950s salon.

Monroe, I hope these suggestions help and that you can find a mask tailor-made for your own skin troubles. Because believe me, once you find that mask (or combo of many) that really work, your skin will seriously thank you. Good luck!
