Last month, American Apparel launched an awkward competition search for a plus-size model. Called The Next Big Thing, the competition asked women to submit photos of themselves that showed off their “curvaceous bods.”
You see, American Apparel had the brilliant idea that there were “big women out there” who clearly needed clothes; and being the forward thinking brand that they were, they decided to hold a voting contest for plus-sized models. One lucky winner would be selected to receive a solo photo shoot and “several brand new XL styles.”
Unsurprisingly, this competition did not go down well with women–most notably, one woman named Nancy Upton, who kindly sent in her own FU regards to the company.
Upton submitted a series of photos of herself posing in a pool with a whole chicken shoved down her throat, positioned on a platter with an apple in her mouth, and holding a cherry pie that covers her you-know-what.
You go girl with yo’ bad self!
