Christie’s Auction House announced this past Wednesday that Elizabeth Taylor’s famous collection of jewels, art, fashion, and memorabilia is set to tour the globe before being auctioned off this coming winter.
The late Hollywood legend, who was always adorned with the finest and most expensive jewels known to man, defined elegance, beauty, and grace.
Taylor lived an extraordinarily interesting life with her eight tumultuous marriages, her enduring acting career, her success as a business woman, and devotion as a humanitarian.
Now, just months after her death, her famed jewels, decorative art from her Impressionist and Modern Art collection, and personal memorabilia from her Bel Air home, will be flown around the world for three months beginning in September and displayed in L.A., Moscow, London, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, and Hong Kong, before making its final stop at Rockefeller center gallery space in New York City where they will be auctioned.
Christie’s is calling the sale “one of the most remarkable jewelry events in auction history.”
Which may be true—at the time of Taylor’s death, her jewels were reportedly worth $100 million.
A portion of the proceeds from the auction will go towards Elizabeth Taylor’s AIDS foundation.
“This collection of her many cherished possessions will bring us closer to the essence of Elizabeth Taylor’s unique spirit, and promises to inspire admiration, delight, and at times, sheer wonder, in all who come to see it” said Marc Porter, the president of Christie’s, in a press release.
These historical gems will go on sale this December 13-16 at Rockefeller Center.
