Fashion Rocks: Prince’s Style Revisited

Has this been the summer of royal weddings or what?

Prince William and Kate. Prince Albert and Charlene. Prince Georg of Prussia and Princess Sophie of Isenburg. (Don’t feel bad if you’ve never heard of this latter third-string couple who got married last weekend.)

Wills is handsome, but it’s his cute younger brother Harry who always appears to be up to no good. Of course, the original foxy but naughty prince is the one and only Prince Rogers Nelson.

The first time I saw the video for “Little Red Corvette” in the early ’80s, I could not take my eyes off him. Dressed in a flowing white blouse, shiny purple topcoat, tight pants and high-heeled boots, Prince was a beautiful man with a lithe frame that oozed sensuality and his dance moves rivaled Michael Jackson’s.

Glam and flamboyant, he has rocked feminine flourishes like lace, ruffles and bell bottoms while serving up his brand of raunchiness. He pioneered the Minneapolis sound (a mix of funk, rock, pop, soul, metal, R&B and New Wave), has won every major accolade on the planet, and has influenced everyone from OutKast and Justin Timberlake to Lenny Kravitz and Beyoncé.

If you want to take a page from Prince’s style book, you don’t have to resort to wearing yellow ass-less pants. Pair two of this season’s most wearable trends, polka dots and bold colors, into one royally good look.
