The designs of Giorgio Armani have graced the red carpet, draped on Hollywood celebrities like Anne Hathaway and Megan Fox. Yet Armani seemed to take a holy-ier approach to fashion with his latest creation, a robe for Monsignor Domenico Magavero, the bishop of Sicily’s Mazara del Vallo.
The bishop proudly showed off his designer vestment during the inaugural Mass in the courtyard of a new church on Pentelleria, a small island in the Mediterranean.
Monsignor Domenico was looking good in his pale green robe, embroidered in gold and light blue with symbols of Italy; shells, starfish, olive sprigs.
“It’s not about trying to be fashionable,” said the bishop. “It was an initiative aimed at involving a fashion designer who loves Pantelleria and to capitalize on his originality in the service of faith and ultimately of God.”
Armani, who has treated Italy as a favorite vacation spot for years, owns a home, hidden away on the top of a cliff. In 2006, he was made an honorary citizen; the right choice, as this robe is stylish, fashionable and, most importantly, respectable.
So Armani, keep vacationing and getting inspired; perhaps you’ll have another holy idea.
