Unexpected Companions: Denim on Denim

Denim is a material that speaks for itself.

There has been long debate about how to wear this rugged textile without looking dated or unstylish.

Recently, the denim on denim trend has worked its way back into the headlines, but how do you avoid looking like you are wearing your mom’s vintage denim jacket, or like you just came back from a long trip on a relative’s farm?

The key is to never wear similar types of denim together. Avoid wearing more than one piece of any wash or color; it makes the look heavy and bland.

Try mixing dark wash jeans with an oversized shirt and a lighter wash denim jacket. Pair the look with boots, scarf, sunglasses, and a duffel for a jet-set rockstar inspired outfit.

This look is effortless, and has a certain edge that will leave you wanting more. Accessorizing denim with things like leather and metals give the material a modern touch. Start by working with a few staple pieces, then work your way to a full outfit. Remember: all things good in moderation.
