For those of you music lovers who are weeping over the fact that you missed this year’s music festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo, never fear, you can still catch the Escape to New York festival.
The brand new festival, founded by Freddie Fellows — who also founded the Secret Garden Party — has gathered a smashing lineup of rising indie stars and living legends. The brand new festival, founded by Freddie Fellows — who also founded the Secret Garden Party — has gathered a smashing lineup of rising indie stars and living legends. Veteran punk star turned bestselling author Patti Smith is headlining a show on August 5th. The rest of the lineup includes folk darlings Best Coast, Of Montreal, Chairlift, the Vaccines and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.
The festival is a three day event, held in Southampton, New York, a town that shares space with the Shinnecock Nation, a Native American tribe that leaves its imprint all over the area. As such, traditional Shinnecock arts and crafts will be sold at the event.
In addition, the event is tailored to art fans and freaks everywhere, and includes performance art, experimental theater and art installations. Award-winning photographer, Mark Greenberg (who shot the portrait for pop-art authority, Andy Warhol) also will showcase some of his work, in addition to photographing the three-day party.
Escape to New York Festival also offers a “glamping” package, which is a glamorous “boutique” camping experience. For $2,250, the “glamping” kit and caboodle offers a traditional teepee that suits 4-6 people and has waterproof floors, rugs, a table, a lantern and pillows.
But if summer spending has already set you back, you can buy a regular weekend pass for $275, or a day-pass for $100.
According to the festival’s Facebook page, potential festival-goers should “expect the unexpected. Imagine the unimaginable.” Considering the amazing lineup, that isn’t hard to do at all.
