A Double Win for the Hayek-Pinault Family in FranceIt was announced earlier this week that Francois Pinault Jr., the chairman of multinational luxury holding company PPR,  received the highest accolade that can be bestowed upon a civilian in France: the title of Grand Officer by the French Legion of Honor.

Pinault is considered one of fashion’s heavyweights with Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, and Gucci among PPR’s many prestigious houses.  PPR, founded in 1963 by Francois Pinault Sr., also has stake in Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen’s fashionable holdings.

Pinault’s famous wife, actress Salma Hayek-Pinault also received a civilian title as a Legion of Honor Knight.

Whispers and rumors are said to be circling over whether Salma’s honor was deserved or a “vulgar move” by French President Sarkozy to generate press for the upcoming French elections.

Nonetheless, it was a family affair and Hayek-Pinault’s win certainly proves true that she married well.

The French are no strangers to honoring fashion’s elite, and past Grand Officer titles have been bestowed to LVMH chairman and CEO, Bernard Arnault, and Vogue editor, Anna Wintour.
