There’s a certain sense of pride a Washingtonian gets when seeing a band that originated from the district.
Among the khaki wearing federal workers, the suited politicians, aspiring lobbyists, and the future lawmakers, creative acts in DC are hard to come by.
So when we were invited to see DC-based band, Dangerosa, at the Velvet Lounge, we were cautiously anticipating a proud moment.
Founded in 2008, the four-person act, comprised of Avé Luke-Simpson (vocals, bass), Will Simpson (guitar), Chang Won Chang ( guitar) and Dave Cayrampoma (drums), recently released their second album, “Massif,” earlier this year.
And despite being around for some time now, Washingtonians are just starting to take notice of their shoe-gazy, euphoric sound.
Mostly instrumentally driven, their sound reminds us of early Björk, but with more soulful roots.
Beautiful dreamy melodies and Avé Luke-Simpson’s ethereal and haunting vocal stylings brings it all together, which ultimately leaves us with something musically unexpected.
We, for one, are certainly dangerously close to loving Dangerosa.
