Recently I’ve been rethinking my own fragrance strategies, and when I learned that Comme des Garçons was launching a new fragrance—one tied in with London’s Serpentine Gallery—I knew it was a must-have for me. Even if the scent wasn’t right, sometimes the bottle and the inspiration behind it are enough to justify ownership.
The label created the fragrance as ode to the new Serpentine Sackler space designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The packaging and glass bottle, created by artist Tracey Emin is decorated with the words: “The Grass, the Trees, the Lake, and You,” and all use Hadid’s own handwriting.
Inside the box, you’ll find another piece of Emin’s art—an illustration of two lovers embracing, which is actually simply a rendering of the sculpture she has created for the new gallery space, which is called “The Heart Has Its Reasons.”
The scent itself is sounds perfect for spring, combining notes of iris leaf, green grass, fresh flowers, juniper wood and nutmeg. It launched worldwide on May 5th, and you can snag a bottle online at the Dover Street Market New York website ($95).
